Answer: How to solve equations

Step-by-step explanation:

You have to use Pemdas the order of operations to solve these types of equations.

Parenthesis,Exponents,multiplication,Division,Addition,subtraction.

Multiplication and division fit in a group left to right.

Addition and subtraction come last but depends on which comes first left to right.

Here you first have to use the distributive property.

3(y+5)=39 multiply 3 times y that gives you 3y. Then multiply 3 times 5 that gives you 15 . So, now you have simplified the left side of the equal sign so you have 3y+15=39 now subtract 15 from both sides and you get 3y=24 then you divide both sides by 3 to get y=8. What I just went over you do again and again to solve all these types of equations. Your trying to solve for the variable so you try to get y or m or n or any variable by itself.

If the average speed of a garden snail is 0.025 miles per hour and one inch is approximately 2.54 centimeters, how many minutes
BaLLatris [955]

Snail takes 1.5 minutes to travel around one meter

<u>Solution:</u>

Given, the average speed of a garden snail is 0.025 miles per hour

And one inch is approximately 2.54 centimeters,

We have to find how many minutes would it take a garden snail to travel one meter?

Now, let us convert the speed in miles per hour to meters per minute

Then, speed = 0.025 miles per hour

= 0.025 x 1 mile / 1 hour

= 0.025 x 1609.34 meters / 60 minutes

= 0.025 x 1609.34 / 60 meters per minute

\begin{array}{l}{=\frac{0.025 \times 1609.34}{60} \text { meters per minute }} \\\\ {=\frac{40.2335}{60} \text { meters per minute }}\end{array}

= 0.670 meters per minute.

Now, 0.670 meters ⇒ 1 minute

Then, 1 meter ⇒ n minutes

So, by criss cross method

n x 0.67 = 1 x 1

n = 1.4912

Hence, snail takes 1.5 minutes approximately to travel 1 meter.

What is the perimeter of the trapezoid with vertices Q(8, 8), R(14, 16), S(20, 16), and T(22, 8)? Round to the nearest hundredth
EleoNora [17]
Check the picture below.

so... you can pretty much see how long RS and QT are, you can just count the units off the grid.

now, let's find QR's length

\bf ~~~~~~~~~~~~\textit{distance between 2 points}\\\\&#10;\begin{array}{ccccccccc}&#10;&&x_1&&y_1&&x_2&&y_2\\&#10;%  (a,b)&#10;&Q&(~ 8 &,& 8~) &#10;%  (c,d)&#10;&R&(~ 14 &,& 16~)&#10;\end{array}~~ &#10;%  distance value&#10;d = \sqrt{( x_2- x_1)^2 + ( y_2- y_1)^2}&#10;\\\\\\&#10;QR=\sqrt{(14-8)^2+(16-8)^2}\implies QR=\sqrt{6^2+8^2}&#10;\\\\\\&#10;QR=\sqrt{36+64}\implies QR=\sqrt{100}\implies QR=10

and let's also find the length for ST

\bf ~~~~~~~~~~~~\textit{distance between 2 points}\\\\&#10;\begin{array}{ccccccccc}&#10;&&x_1&&y_1&&x_2&&y_2\\&#10;%  (a,b)&#10;&S&(~ 20 &,& 16~) &#10;%  (c,d)&#10;&T&(~ 22 &,& 8~)&#10;\end{array}~ &#10;d = \sqrt{( x_2- x_1)^2 + ( y_2- y_1)^2}&#10;\\\\\\&#10;ST=\sqrt{(22-20)^2+(8-16)^2}\implies ST=\sqrt{2^2+(-8)^2}&#10;\\\\\\&#10;ST=\sqrt{4+64}\implies ST=\sqrt{68}\implies ST=\sqrt{4\cdot 17}&#10;\\\\\\&#10;ST=\sqrt{2^2\cdot 17}\implies ST=2\sqrt{17}

so, add the lengths of all sides, and that's the perimeter of the trapezoid.
