The story runs about the main character of the story, Walt Master who is a fourteen year old boy. The story teaches us to stand by with the right side.

Though Walt Master is a boy but there is a look of manliness on his face. He is young but brave and mature. He is tough and is not afraid of others. He can talk to other man, trade beads and calico with them in exchange of furs.  Thus he is courageous and have a good heart.

In the story he wanted to help Loren hall to get Dawson before the claim jumpers attacked Hall's property.

These qualities makes him different from other boys in the town.
