Generative writing is best used to brainstorm new writing topics. It is used to 'generate' new ideas, to create new ideas, come up with something new to write about. When you brainstorm, you think of as many ideas as you can that may be relevant for your topic, and then decide which ones you are actually going to incorporate into your writing.
