Noun clauses are dependent clauses that function as nouns. They usually contain a subject and a verb just as is the case with clauses. On their own, noun clauses do no make complete meaning. They are introduced by words like, who, whoever, that, whomever, when, whether, whichever, which, what, why, etc. For example, in the first sentence above, the dependent clause is:

<em>"that we have eight planets"</em>

In this clause, "we" functions as the subject, while "have" functions as the verb. On its own, this clause does not make complete meaning.
