I would say that the Romantic trait presented in this short story is about individual choice and how Tom Walker obviously sells his soul to the devil in order to get the buried treasure and even he and his wife treasure things from each other, things that should relate to both of them and be shared by both of them.
At the time, it was written it was a Faustian tale or tale of characters showing their greed and selfishness.
