This depends entirely on the research project in question. For instance, if you want to learn more about how the memorial was constructed, you could look at the history of its architecture, etc. Or if you want to know more about how it was conceived you should look at the debates surrounding it's creation.

A group of farmers from the south organized what was called as the Farmer's alliance. They tried to get legislation passed which would help agricultural workers and farmers because they believed that the east coast was just a bunch of elites who were into politics from the money. When they failed, they decided to organize a party which became the Populist party.
