The two primary fears of the US population during the Cold War were that there would be nuclear war between the US and the USSR, and that communist uprisings would spread through the Us. Eisenhower was credited for remaining relatively calm and rational during these crises.
The availability of consumer goods and the means to buy them most lead to the consumer culture. The consumer culture is broadly defined as a culture where social status, values and activities are centered on the consumption of good and services. In the 1950's when consumer goods and the means to buy them became available the consumer culture was born.
