Patriots were fighting for their freedom and rights. George Rogers Clark was a military officer from Virginia who became famous for his victory in the American Revolution against the British. He led a small band of frontiersmen through the cold waters (February) of the Illinois country to capture Fort Sackville at Vincennes in 1779 which was earlier captured by the British.
