In english it is very common for vowells to be silent, or ignored. usually this is because they are making another vowell make a sound but this isn't always the case. Some example words could be Giraffe (e is silent) and Rules (the e makes the u make a sound but if it weren't for english rules, could be taken out.) Business also works (we don't say the i)
