Emma Hart Willard founded the first school for women's secondary and higher education in the United States -- the Troy Female Seminary in Troy, New York.

Emma Hart Willard (1787–1870) was born to a farming family in Connecticut. But her father, a farmer, encouraged his daughter to learn to read and write. She went on to want to encourage education for other women. The Troy Female Seminary, which she founded, actually was started in 1821 (not 1826) - I wonder if there's a typo in your question? According to the National Park Service, Troy Female Seminary is recognized as the country's first secondary school for females. Emma Willard's goal was to provide young women with the same educational opportunites as men.

In 1895, The Troy Female Seminary was renamed The Emma Willard School in honor of the founder. It operates today as a university-prep school / boarding school for young women in grades 9-12, with an enrollment in the 300s.

What does an army sacrifice when it commits to the protection provided by a trench
stellarik [79]
The answer is mobility. Trench warfare was popular at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, Trenches, essentially large ditches men dug, and then took up defensive positions in, were very good at giving soldiers a place to hide from incoming automatic weapons fire and mortar strikes. This however gave birth to "trench warfare", a style of combat relying on melee combat, short range weapons like shotguns, and worst of all, penetrating attacks the trenches couldn't protect from, such as shrapnel heavy grenades, flamethrowers, or even chemical weapon attacks. Trench warfare was also terrible as the living conditions in the trenches often involved standing water, disease, and malnutrition.

The case of Furman v. Georgia (1972) resulted in a reinterpretation of the meaning of
storchak [24]

1. I believe the answer is: D.cruel and unusual punishment.

Fur,man v. Georgia (1972) revolved around the decision on which type of crimes is considered severe enough to be punishable by death penalty and the method that can be used for the death penalty. The court ruled out that rappist cannot be subjected to death penalty and death by lightning can no longer be used.

2. I believe the answer is: D.create clear standards to be applied fairly before imposing the death penalty.

The court ruled out that even if there might be some crime that could be punishable by death penalty, the process had to carried out as painless as possible. This limit the type of method that can used for the punishment and additional special treatment that death convict has before their punishment.
