I would like to say C, because they were imperialistic power who sought out many colonies through out the world and they were heavily militaristic about these colonies. But I would wait for a second answer before you choose C, as I am unsure of this.
Segregation was an useful tool in preserving the economic and social dominance of the white southerners. With segregation the African Americans were being discriminated against and kept in socially inferior position thus enabling the whites to get better paying jobs and generally better positions thus continuing the cycle of economical dominance of the white southerners.
The great reform act enabled many parts of the land to prosper and the problem of rotten boroughs to cease to exist by redistributing the seats of parliament according to the needs of the land. What this means is that places that were "rotten" were now better represented and people could fight for their development in the parliament.

Explanation: So the south had the majority of the slaves during the civil war time. The south wanted to Keep slavery and the north wanted to abolish it. This war was considered one of the bloodiest battles in american history. Slavery was very essential back then becuase all those slaves were working hard with minimum to no pay on the farms. This means that the owners could sell the crops and get the moolah.(its all about the moolah right)? So there was a big gun fight and people died. But the mentality of the south states I guess were angry and fighting to keep the money(simply put). While the north thought that the south were being bullies:)
