Answer:

In the story "Rules of the Game" by Amy Tan's the conflict is mainly external, man vs. man or, more like daughter vs. mother. Waverly and her mother seem to never understanding each other's and how they both feel. That is very clear toward the end of the story, when the mother proudly introduces Waverly to everyone, even strangers, on the street. Waverly is a sort of child prodigy, a chess genius, and her mother can't help but display her. It does not sit right with Waverly that she is being exhibited. So it makes since that she would be reacting in a way that is disrespectful and offensive, to her mother.

The main idea of the memoir "Gumption" is that motivation is kind of like gumption which is also the theme of the story. The author goes into this meaning within the story. His mother motivates him for everything he does and tells the main character not to give up in any chance saying, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again." This quote creates the main idea of the whole story. This quote is a huge motivation for the author. Also, another motivating quote is when she said, "Buddy, maybe you could be a writer." That is also an encouragement which all goes back and connects with the main idea and theme "never give up."

Taya2010 [7]

Answer

Factors that will contribute to the continued development of English in the next ten years are; Invention of new technologies, electronic communication such as text messaging, travel to different countries, availability of information on the internet and popular culture

Explanation

The invention of new technologies such as automatic translation software like the Google Translate will in future place English as a language used for communication in board meetings for international corporations and government agencies.Traveling to other countries can influence the development of multiple Englishes in a person. For example, the U.S has influence most people using English language throughout the world. The word “schedule” instead of schedule, spelling of “disk” instead of “disc” are all examples of preference observed in English speakers.Electronic communication such as text messages has incorporated the use of emoji pictogram that allows users to communicate with no need of language. This means that English language users will soon cease communicating in English at all. Fast changing world of social communication in social media platforms has contributed to the shortening of the language and introduction of new words. For example the word mansplaining has been added to new dictionaries to give a flavour. The internet has influenced Pop culture by making the world a small village which has affected the manner people dress, the art practiced and the music listened. The more a person listens to Rnb tunes, the higher the chances of speaking in American English.
