Answer:

D) it tries to persuade by using reasoning that is not sound or logical

Explanation:

Fallacy can be defined as a mistaken or false belief that are based on illogical arguments or reasoning.

However, a lot of people might actually think it to be true but it isn't. There are various types of fallacy and these include; black or white, non sequitur, ad hominem, bandwagon, appeal to authority, straw man, oversimplification/hasty generalization.

Validity refer to the soundness of conclusions that can be drawn from an argument. It is a term used to refer to how precise and accurate an information or reasoning describes, estimate, and establishes the truth.

Hence, a fallacious reasoning ruin the validity of an argument because it tries to persuade by using reasoning that is not sound or logical.

For example;

I. For a great night's sleep, buy a mattress from Mattress Warehouse. Our unique brand of mattress is the only mattress that Donald King will buy for his home.

II. I had dysentery last night after eating meat pie, pizzas are the best and tastiest.

Sunderland College has historically had an outstanding football team. In its 50-year history, the team has had more winning seas
Temka [501]

Answer:

<u>2. They stress the degree to which coach Wilson is incompetent.</u>

Explanation:

Although from the first sentence, the use of the adverb <em>"outstandingly" </em>helps the reader see how much the team has declined, its main objective in the passage is to show coach Wilson's degree of incompetence.

This was made clearer when another adverb <em>"unquestionably"</em> was linked to the "losing streak" mentioned earlier in the passage. In other words, starting 10 years ago, after a new coach was hired, Sunderland College <u>astoundingly </u>could not win a single championship, which <u>unquestionably </u>indicates the degree to which coach Wilson is incompetent.
