There are many similarities between two-party and multiparty systems. The following two are the most important:
1. There is more than one political party in both a two-party and a multiparty system. For these systems to work either one party has to have a majority of votes or, in a multiparty system, a number of the smaller parties have to group together to form a coalition or majority. In a two-party system, one party has to have the majority to be able to form a government. 2. There will often be a rotation of which party is in power in both the two-party system and the multiparty system. In a two-party system, it will only ever be one of two choices. In a multiparty system, however, the rotation can include any one of the participating parties
