Jem's feelings begin to change after strange and secluded Boo saves him from Bob, who has attacked him and his sister Scout. In the assault, Boo kills Bob with a knife to rescue the children. After the incident, Jem realizes Boo is a worthy person.

The story suggests that people should not have preasumed opinions that are not based on reason or experience. As a result, the best way to understand people who are different from us is not to judge others before we get to know them.
