1. <u>Latins</u>: spoke the same language as the Romans. This language was known as Latium.
2. <u>Carthaginians</u>: fought the Romans for control of the Mediterranean Sea. Carthaginians were mainly traders who traded their goods on the Mediterranean Sea and when the Romans sought to expand into the trade zone, conflicts ensued between both parties. This war happened between 264 BC and 146 BC.
3. <u>Etruscans</u>: ruled over Rome before it became a republic. They ruled over Rome for centuries but the last Etruscan King was overthrown.
4. <u>Greeks</u>: had colonies in southern Italy. These colonies were considered to have significantly influenced the Roman culture.
