Containment is a geo-political strategy to stop the expansion of an enemy. During the cold war the US used a policy of containment to stop the spread of communism.
Fortress Defiance was set up on September 18, 1851 lead by Edwin V. Sumner to make a military nearness in Diné bikéyah. Sumner separated the stronghold at Santa Fe for this reason, making the principal military post in what is presently Arizona. He cleared out Major Electus Backus in control.

There were several reasons that Europeans wanted to find an ocean trade to East Asia.
One is that the route they would've naturally used was being controlled by nearby nations.
Second is because East Asia had amazing spices and goods that the Europeans desired.
