The Vietnam War was fought between South Vietnam and North Vietnam. The U.S. aided South Vietnam while North Vietnam was aided by the communist Soviet Union. The war was at a stalemate for awhile even with the help of the U.S. on the South's side. The U.S. left the war due to public discontent.
