Why have people in the past told stories of monsters and ghosts which later turned out to be explained by scientific research or

The people were carrying on legends and folklore from centuries ago about a man who held hands with his dead wife at the top of a mountain over in China and later discovered he was dead himself but was still able to talk with other people. It’s exciting to think about that’s why people make up these fake or true legends
