James Jerome Hill was an American entrepreneur who promoted the construction of the Railroad without any help from the federal government. He became the builder of the Great Northern Railroad. In the 19th century, he was one of the railroad entrepreneurs to hold control over the Northern Pacific and the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy railroads. Hill helped to transform the Northwest of America by opening it to settlement, farming, and commercial development.
