The Protestant reformation took place during a boom of the work of missionaries in the recently discovered American continent. One way they helped counter the effects of the Protestant movement was the addition of millions of new members to the Catholic Church among the Native Americans. Also, their enthusiasm led them to teach the doctrine of the Catholic faith to these newly added members of the Church, a practice no longer carried out in Europe. And finally, the austere and solemn lifestyle of the missionaries set an example to follow for all Catholics.

How was the Declaration of Independence viewed when it was first written?
ad-work [718]

The Declaration of Independence was written in 1776 by the Continental Congress. It was viewed as a document of the people wanting to Declare their independence from Britain. After all the taxes/laws the colonists have gone through, they had enough (Stamp Act, Sugar Act, Townshend Act, Intolerable Acts, etc.) Almost all colonists viewed it as their ray of "hope." There are a few loyalists who disapprove, though.

2) Both sought to limit immigration to the United States:

a. True

3) Both supported the overseas expansion of the United States:

4) Both attempted to limit the influence of big business on American politics:

b. False

Explanation:

The Know-Nothing Party in the 1850's was a clandestine nativist organization that later formed the American Party.  This political party, according to britannica.com, "called for restrictions on immigration, the exclusion of the foreign-born from voting or holding public office in the United States, and for a 21-year residency requirement for citizenship."

On the other hand, the response to the Red Scare of 1919, the first Red Scare described the fear of communism and anarchism during the cold war between Russia and the United States.  In the response to the Red Scare of 1919, there were calls for immigration restrictions and purging of the Russian Communist influence in the United States.

Conclusively, both sought to limit immigration to the United States.
