frez [133]
The statement provided above is actually false because ethnocentrism is the opposite of avoiding cultural bias. By definition, ethnocentrism is the belief that one's own culture or ethnicity is more superior than others. It is displayed when people make judgments about other people's manner of talking, behavior, religion, and traditions.

Read the excerpt from The Odyssey. Their secret! as she heard it told, her knees grew tremulous and weak, her heart failed her.
MariettaO [177]
I think the theme for that scene is that love and family make a homecoming worth while but i could be wrong. My reasoning is that in the odyssey, it is crucial to remember the wife’s devotion to her husband and so he only felt good when he received her attention. Granted he is a player and cheated on his wife, he always respected her and essentially demanded the same from her. And after is long journey back home, it is rewarding to see good things such as his wife still staying loyal to him after the craziness he went through.

Why does Miep feel this way? She is relieved that the frightening officers have left. She is shocked and disappointed by the day
ladessa [460]

Miep feels that way because she is shocked and disappointed by the day's events, as shown in the second answer option.

We can arrive at this answer because:

  • Miep is scared and upset that Nazi officers have found the Franks' hideout and may be taking them to concentration camps.
  • She has dedicated herself so much to helping the Franks and they know they are good people and so she feels very sad and apprehensive about everything that is going on.
  • Her feelings were so intense about the arrival of the officers that she couldn't focus on anything, without even noticing the day going by.

In short, Miep was very affected by the arrival of the Nazi officers and the events of the day they arrived.
