Three reasons:

- Genes biologically determine specific apparent traits ( phenotype).

- A genotype which is formed by the genes ( parent to offspring) predetermines the physical traits ( phenotype) .

- DNA which is also genotype is the reason a person is who they are as far as generic traits inherited which always lead to physical abilities.
