postnew [5]

Personification is a type of metaphorical language in which non-living objects are given human characteristics to pique the reader’s attention and imagination.

The sentence gives the paper, the wind, and the flag human characteristics. The flag is given the ability to wave by the author in order to represent the scene and circumstances. The wind can now purposefully whistl, and the paper appears to be flying of its own own.Personification is a figure of speech in which inanimate objects, thoughts, or animals are given human traits. The phrase that demonstrates personification is.

The great city is almost sound asleep. Not a city, but only humans or animals can be said to be asleep. It indicates that New York is a city where activity is carried out around-the-clock.Personification is the process of giving a nonliving thing the ability to do actions that only living things can.Example: The wind roared the wind cannot howl because it is not alive.

The paragraph below is an excerpt from an article written for a school newspaper.
andriy [413]

Answer: Critical

Explanation: The paragraph shows a critical tone due to the last two sentences. The beginning was purely informative of the rising popularity of cell phone usage. None of the particulate tones were being used. As the paragraph progresses, the author switches to the stating a negative side to cell phone usage. This being said, melancholy and humorous make no particular sense as an answer, which leaves us with respectful and critical. We can eliminate respectful because although the author was respectful, there was more to it then just that. Hope that helps!

How does the selection of medium (written version vs. visual image) affect your understanding of theme?
Sladkaya [172]

Answer:

Responses may vary but should include some or all of the following information:

The painting is open for wider interpretation. A viewer who doesn't know the story of Pandora may interpret the winged creatures flying out of the box as demons and construct their own version of the meaning of the image. A reader is given more specific details and pointed in the direction of the interpretation desired by the author. Both share the idea that something bad has been set free.

I need help !!! (There is a picture)
Dvinal [7]

Although I cannot provide you with a whole essay, I can give you topics and ideas to develop into one, as well as tips on how to do it. The following are the topics:

 • Let's agree with the affirmation that having one or two really close friends is better than having many casual acquaintances.
 • Acquaintances are fun to have, but they are only superficial. They are the type of friends who will always be willing to go out for a drink and have a good time, but that is all there is to it.
 • A good, close friend, on the other hand, is one who will be there for better or for worse.
 • Good friends tell you their real opinion about something, even if it is painful, because they want what is best for you.
 • Good friends will drop everything and come to your aid when you are in need.
 • One good friend is, thus, worth dozens of acquaintances.

How to develop topics into an essay:

 • If you use the topics above to write an essay, for example, try to think of examples that will help your reader visualize the difference between acquaintances and close friends.
 • Use personal anecdotes or general examples of how acquaintances behave versus how close friends do.
 • Remember that an essay must have an introduction, a body, and a conclusion.
 • Your opinion should be clearly stated in the introduction, and then developed throughout the essay. The examples will function as evidence that prove your opinion right.
 • Do not add new information to the conclusion. Only restate your opinion in fewer words.
