There are several effects of tropical rainforest deforestation on the local environment.

Deforestation is the removal of the land cover usually shrubs and vegetation. This often leads to;

  • Loss of habitat for arboreal organisms that depends on trees for their dwelling.
  • Increase likelihood for desertification of an area.
  • exposure of the land surface to erosion, and this leads to removal of the fertile soil top layer.
  • loss of soil fertility and productivity for the ecosystem.
