Richard Henry Lee, a delegate from Virgina, introduced a resolution to Congress in Philadelphia proclaiming independence from Britain; John Adams seconded the motion.
Lee’s resolution declared that the colonies had the right to be free and independent States;
That the actions were to be taken immediately for a total dissolution of bonds with the British Crown.
The movement was led by a man called Steve Biko. BC encouraged all black South Africans to recognize their inherent dignity and self-worth. In the 1970s, the Black Consciousness Movement spread from university campuses into urban black communities throughout South Africa. Biko was banned in 1973.
