These sentiments would have been augmented by the racial prejudice that native-born Americans and many other ethnic groups held against Japanese and Asian people. It was also feared that Japanese-Americans would sabotage the American war-effort and act as spies for the Japanese government. The outbreak of war with Japan caused these sentiments to boil over and led to the internment of Japanese-Americans.
