The moisture will be spend on this side of the mountain, and only dry air mas will be left after the rainfall, which will continue moving down the other side of the mountain range, the leeward side. This dry air mass brings in dry winds, making the leeward side of the mountain range arid or semi-arid, and this process is often referred to as rain shadow.
