Energy use and economic growth go hand in hand. We can not say that more energy usage leads to economic growth, or that bigger economic growth leads to bigger usage of energy, simply because one can not do anything without the other. To put it simply, energy use and economic growth occur at the same time because of their interdependence.

What can be said is that energy use and economic growth grow together, so the more developed a country is, the more energy it uses, and the less developed a country is, the less energy it uses. A lot of countries in the world face big problems when it comes to satisfying their energy demands because they lack the natural resources to produce it, so often they are dependent on other countries for their development. On the other hand, there are also countries that have an abundance of natural resources for energy production but they simply don't use them adequately and responsibly so they are not developed as one would expect.
