In 1892, Homer A. Plessy sat down in a "whites only" railroad car in Louisiana. He was breaking the law but he refused to move t

o a "blacks only" car. Plessy was arrested and his case eventually went to the U.S. Supreme Court. The court's decision was that separate transportation facilities for blacks and whites were not unconstitutional as long the facilities were equal.
