In ‘Let America be America Again’, Langston Hughes contrasts the American reality with the American dream to show what America has become and what it was meant to be. America to him meant freedom and equality but it has become the exact opposite and a story of greed, oppression and inequality. Hughes is one of the most important names associated with Harlem Renaissance. He had gained recognition as an imminent poet at an early age of 24 when Du Bose Heyward highlighted his rising stature in one of his articles for the New York Herald Tribune. However, Hughes mostly attracted criticism during his early career. His ‘Let America be America Again’ came in 1936. This poem is a call to turn back and see where we were destined to go and where we have arrived. The poem starts with the mention of a dream of freedom and equality.

Who says the following and why (from "Most Dangerous Game")?
Anton [14]

Answer and Explanation:

In the short story "The Most Dangerous Game", the character Zaroff is the one who says "That's the trouble with these sailors; they have dull brains to begin with, and they do not know how to get about in the woods. They do excessively stupid and obvious things. It's most annoying." The reason why general Zaroff says the words is because, the previous night, he had been hunting a man, a sailor. That man was easily caught and killed, which made the whole deal boring for Zaroff.

Those lines were taken from a conversation between the general and another hunter, Rainsford, the main character. Zaroff has invited Rainsford to hunt with him, but Rainsford refuses to kill men. The general does not see what he does as murder. He's grown bored of killing animals incapable of reasoning, which is why he has decided to kill other human beings. He likes the challenge.

abruzzese [7]

Abraham Lincoln adressed the American people with a speech that, as a side fact, is one of the most quoted speeches in the history of the U.S.

Over the years scholars have analyzed the speech, and they suggest that Lincoln used extreme care with his words. He wanted to deliver a heartfelt and precise message in moments of extreme national crisis. The magnitude of the battle in Gettysburg stunned the whole nation, and the dedication of a cementery at the site of the Civil War's most pivotal battle was seen as a solemn event, that empathized with the whole nation.

He placed this battle within the larger context of the American history, by making reference 87 years before to it's foundation. Lincoln sought to transform America by making an attempt at redefining liberty and nationalism by fusing the two together. Lincoln forever changed the way we think about the country.
