How do synonyms best help readers to figure out the meanning of unknown words
Scrat [10]
Synonyms help us connect unknown words with known words. For example, one may not know the meaning of the word "nefarious" when used in this context: "The offense was more nefarious than previously thought." If we replace "nefarious" with "evil" or "wretched" the meaning is more comprehensible to those who don't know the meaning of "nefarious": The offense was more evil (wretched) than previously thought."
I hope this helps, I used nefarious as a somewhat uncommon term to better illustrate my point, and to explain why we use synonyms to learn new words. Simply put, synonyms bridge us to the unknown using the known as solid ground build from.

Leonardo's Mona Lisa is arguably the most famous example. Other High Renaissance artists such as Andrea del  Madonna of the Harpies (1517) and Portrait of Fra Bartolomeo (c. 1497-1498) also produced powerful works in oil.

This painting shows an interest in nature. Which of the following goals was the Renaissance artist's goal? They sought to capture what the real world looked like.

Certain characteristic elements of Renaissance painting developed greatly during this period. These include perspectives related to both its achievement and the effect to which it is applied, and realism, especially the representation of humans as symbols, portraits, or narrative elements.
