Elan Coil [88]

The name which is given to the idea of actively reading historical material and then interpreting it into your ideas about its thesis and evidence is:

 • Synthesizing

What is Synthesis in Reading?

This refers to the technique of reading where a person reads an original document and then creates new elements with his own understanding to see them in a new way.

With this in mind, we can see that the process of active reading of a historical material and then making interpretations into one's own ideas about its thesis and evidence is known as synthesis.

What is the best description of the stance of most Northern states on protective tariffs in the years leading up to the Civil Wa
grin007 [14]

Stacey Stewart

Tariffs particularly favored the North and their manufacturing plants. By imposing a Protective Tariff on imports from foreign lands, the Northern manufacturers would benefit because since imports from foreign nations, say Britain, were now very expensive, natives would buy from the much cheaper Northern manufacturers. This is what it means to be "protective." It was "protecting" the factories in the North.
The South particularly disliked these tariffs because they did not have any interest in the North benefiting from their money.

How did the Protestant Reformation affect the competition among European powers in the colonization of the Americas?
TEA [102]

Answer:

The Portuguese and Spanish colonies were eminently Catholic because the metropolises were Catholic (Spain was the most conservative and reactionary bastion of Catholicism in Europe, the craddle of Counterreformation), and Reformation and Protestants were fought and excluded in the 16th century. Meanwhile, most English settlers in the New World were believers of the Protestant faith and many of them had left England for religious purposes; their versions of Protestantism were stricter than the official practice of the Anglican Church.
