A random sample of 49 measurements from a population with population standard deviation σ1 = 4 had a sample mean of x1 = 11. An

independent random sample of 64 measurements from a second population with population standard deviation σ2 = 5 had a sample mean of x2 = 14. Test the claim that the population means are different. Use level of significance 0.01. What distribution does the sample test statistic follow? Explain.

Answer:

Reject H0 and conclude that population means are different.

Step-by-step explanation:

H0: μ1 = μ2

H1: μ1 ≠ μ2

x1 = 11 ; σ1 = 4 ; n1 = 49

x2 = 14 ; σ2 = 5 ; n2 = 64

The test statistic :

(x1 - x2) / sqrt[(σ1²/n1 + σ2²/n2)]

Test statistic :

(11 - 14) / sqrt[(4²/49 + 5²/64)]

Test statistic :

-3 / √0.7171556

Test statistic = - 3.542

Using α = 0.01

The critical value Zα/2 ; Z0.01/2 = 2.58

Decison region :

Reject H0 : if Test statistic < Zcritical

Reject H0 : - 3.542 < - 2.58

is the answer b ?? i could be wrong , but i thought that you'd have a 50% chance when flipping coins .
vovikov84 [41]

The experimental probability is how many times it landed on heads over the amount of times it was flipped.

The coin landed on heads 32 times out of 50 flips which is 32/50 which equals 0.64, which is 64%

The answer is D.

Tia states that the graph of g(x) = (x – 2)3 + 7 is a translation of 2 units to the left and 7 units up from f(x) = x3. Is Tia’s
Lina20 [59]

Answer:

No.

Step-by-step explanation:

Compare g(x) = (x – 2)^3 + 7 to f(x) = (x - h)^3 + k.  Here, h denotes horizontal translation and k denotes vertical translation.  Translation to the left by 2 units would be (x + 2)^3 + 7.  Translation to the right by 2 units would be (x - 2)^3 + 7.  So, no, Tia's description of horiz. translation is incorrect.

However, her adding 7 does denote a positive vertical translation.

Which of the following graphs represents a function?
timurjin [86]

Answer:

1st Graph

Step-by-step explanation:

A simple way to test if a relation may be taken as a function is by applying the Vertical Line Test. If a Vertical Line crosses the graph only once, then it is a function. In this question, only the first one can be considered to be a function.

Because in other words, only the first graph shows one value for x corresponding to another for y value. Not the case for the second and the third graph displaying two values for x for each y value.
