One of the major policies the United States has done after the second world war was the "containment of Soviet Union." The rise of communism was spread throughout Western Europe coming to a point that the USSR would become a threat to global security. The conflict led to the brink of the Cold War.

The conservatives were opposed to the detente

The detente was a period in the cold war that was characterized by a period of relaxed tensions between  the two world powers, USA and Soviet union. The conservative dubbed the detente as akin to appeasement policy, and like appeasement and Germany expansionism, the soviet union abused it by invading Afghanistan in 1979.

Answer:

The government was unable to deal with the economic crisis left by the war.  The economic situation in Germany briefly improved between 1924-1929. However, Germany in the 1920s remained politically and economically unstable. The Weimar democracy could not withstand the disastrous Great Depression of 1929.
