The Industrial Revolution began in the late eighteenth century in Great Britain. An agrarian revolution and industrialization caused a shift from an economy based on farming to an economy based on manufacturing by machines in factories. As a result, populations swelled in urban areas. Working conditions were not favorable.
YOUR JOB: You are a factory worker living in a large city at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. Write a story about a typical day of work. Was it something specific that occurred on this day? Your goal is to give the reader an understanding of what life was like for you and your coworkers. Remember to include a creation of a scene. You must also have at least four other pieces of figurative language in your story. (Simile, metaphor, alliteration, personification, hyperbole, onomatopoeia). You must use dialogue and description in your narrative. Remember to describe the character, the conflict, and a resolution.


IM MAKING MINE A JOURNAL ENTRY, HERES WHAT I HAVE SO FAR:
Dear Journal,

It was again one of those days, bitterly cold and a workday. We’re in the middle of December in 1765, in which the weather has no sympathy for any of us. I despise working in this condition, but I do it for my family. So, I gave my jacket to my brother and headed down to the pit to start working.

I didn’t like staying in a mine for 12 hours each day. However, they consider me essential. I don’t see myself as essential when it comes to this, my pay is less than 30 cents.
