I think the meaning of this poem is that all americans are equal. As mentioned we all laugh, eat well, and grow strong. No matter how badly you emphazise that you're not the same as a darker-colored American, we are the same. Even if you try to avoid it.

Author’s Purpose + Point of View

An author’s purpose and point of view are different. An author who is persuading will attempt to persuade the reader to act or change the reader’s point of view to that of the author’s.

Point of View (Perspective or Position)

-Point of view is what authors think, feel, or believe about a topic based on their interests and values.

Point of view is also referred to as POV or __first person____________.

How do I find the purpose and point of view (position/perspective)? Infer by analyzing the author’s tone, word choice, and textual evidence! Ask yourself: • What was the ______ally___ of the author? Was it _________nonye______ or_____bays_______? • What words or phrases were “loaded” with__________________? • What _________________ was provided, and what ideas did the evidence support?

Example: Read the sample paragraph below and annotate the text to determine the author’s tone, word choice, and textual evidence.

What is the author’s purpose in writing this text?_________________________the job ws offerd and said no____________________________

Interested in the great outdoors? The Wildlife Club may be perfect for you. The Wildlife club values nature and encourages its members to explore the outdoors while working to protect the environment. Environmental protection is important to preserving the Earth for future generations. The Wildlife club focuses on local ecosystems that are being polluted and destroyed. For example, just last year, the club worked to clean the banks of the Alapaha River which flows through the community. Joining the Wildlife Club will help students make great new friends, have wonderful adventures, and, best of all, save the environment!

How do authors distinguish their point of view (position) from others?

- When an author writes an argument, they have a ________________ which they are making. This claim is the point of view. - To __________________or make their claim stand out, authors will use a __________________ (a different point of view) which they then refute, or disprove.
