To ensure that, along with spontaneous financing from accounts payable and accruals, adequate short-term financing will be avail

able, Morton plans to establish an unsecured short-term borrowing arrangement with its local bank, Third National. The bank has offered either a line-of-credit agreement or a revolving credit agreement. Third National's terms for a line of credit are an interest rate of 2.50% above the prime rate, and the borrowing must be reduced to zero for a 30-day period during the year. On an equivalent revolving credit agreement, the interest rate would be 3% above prime with a commitment fee of 0.50% on the average unused balance.
Under both loans, a compensating balance equal to 20% of the amount borrowed would be required. The prime rate is currently 7%. Both the line-of-credit agreement and the revolving credit agreement would have borrowing limits of $1,000,000. For purposes of his analysis, Morton estimates that Kanton will borrow $600,000 on the average during the year, regardless of which financing strategy and loan arrangement it chooses. (Note: assume a 365-day year.)

d. Find the effective annual rate under: 1) the line-of-credit agreement and 2) the revolving credit agreement. (Hint: Find the ratio of the dollars that the firm will pay in interest and commitment fees to the dollars that the firm will effectively have use of.)
e. If the firm expects to borrow an average of $600,000, which borrowing arrangement would you recommend to Kanton? Why?

Many managers describe performance appraisal as the responsibility that they like least. Why is this so? What could be done to i
rusak2 [61]

Answer:

Performance appraisal is by its very nature subjective.  To improve the situation, as much as it is possible, objectivity should be allowed to rule all appraisal processes.

Explanation:

Performance appraisal is the formal evaluation of employees by their managers for the purpose of aligning employees' performance to the achievement of corporate objectives.  To achieve goal congruence between employees who have different objectives for their work and the organization which wants to achieve profit and other corporate goals, performance appraisals are carried out periodically.  However, the process has been marred by manager's bias, incompetence, and other problems.

in 2020, Mathis Co. at the first year of operations, has financial income of $1,200,000. It has an litigation expense of $3,000,
Ronch [10]

Answer:

Mathis Co.

The Tax payable for 2020 is:

= $1,320,000

Explanation:

a) Data and Calculations:

2020 Financial income =   $1,200,000

add Litigation expense       3,000,000

add installment sales          2,400,000

Adjusted taxable income $6,600,000

Income tax rate = 20%

Tax payable for 2020 = $1,320,000

b) The litigation expense was deducted from the financial income.  This is added back to the income.  Installment sales were not included in the revenue for the financial income of 2020.  This is also added to the financial income.  The net result is the figure for taxable income.  This forms the basis for the application of the income tax rate of 20%.
