what unconscious social commentary does austen's letter offer on pressures that limited a woman's choices in the past?
kaheart [24]
Based on her letter to her niece, Austen can't believe that her niece is truly "in love". Austen believes that her feelings were simply due to the proximity of the man and because of it, she can't say that she is truly "in love". She mistakes her emotions towards the man as something that is deeper, love.

Society during those times doesn't believe and allow women to think for themselves. They equate women, particularly wives, as extensions of their husbands and because of such thinking, society believes that women can't think on their own and must do her husband's bidding.

Read this excerpt from "Mad Cow, Furious Farmer."
Alona [7]

One example of the author keeping a lively tone even while discussing a disease is "The author humanizes the prion with playful language by saying '[i]f it..."

What is tone?

In literature, the term tone refers to the way an author or a narrator approaches a certain topic, that is, his attitude towards it. Examples of tone are the following:

 • Authoritative
 • Lively
 • Demanding
 • Humorous
 • Optimistic
 • Negative

The passage we are analyzing here manages to maintain a lively tone even though the author is describing a serious disease that affects cow. The reason why the tone is lively is the fact that the author humanizes the prion with playful language by saying "[i]f it manages to burrow into a corner." This conveys a funny, almost cute image, of how the protein that causes the disease functions.

With the information above in mind, we can choose option D as the correct answer choice for this question.
