As the plants grow, tie the stems loosely to the stakes with twine or strips of fabric.</u><u>The most common cause of leggy seedlings is lack of strong, overhead lighting. Tomato plants become long and spindly when they are reaching for the light. If the light only comes from one direction, then your seedlings not only become leggy, but will also lean towards the light.</u><u>Generally speaking, in the north, tall plants such as beans, peas, and corn do best on the north side of the garden. Medium size crops such as tomatoes, cabbage, squash, pumpkins, and broccoli in the center of the garden.</u>
