What come to mind for me is the Cold War. America was fighting for equal rights in eastern Europe and other places under Soviet/Communist infulence, and yet there were not equal rights for every one in America, especially for African-Americans in the south.
Mayan culture can still exist because of Mayan descendants that still carry out Mayan cultures and traditions. Also, they can still make art and pottery that could represent beautiful Mayan cultural art and designs.

Well, both were mostly designed to strike like a dagger into its heart as fast as possible. (The 1st World War was more successful) meanwhile the 2nd one was a failure.
The first actually took them out, considering that Russia had internal turmoil. Which ironically led to Soviets Marching into Berlin in WW2. (Lenin being transported to Russia to cause civil unrest.)
