Savater dice que la ética no pasa de moda porque los postulados éticos, es decir, las normas sociales de contenido moral e interno para cada persona, son guías de actuación que, pese a modificaciones superficiales, no dejan de buscar el bien común y la no afectación negativa hacia terceros como principales objetivos.

Así, para el filósofo español la ética puede modificar su contenido teórico, pero en lo que hace a la actitud de las personas frente a la vida, y su intención de propender al bien común, esa actitud nunca se perderá para el grueso de la sociedad.
