In my opinion, the first alternative is correct (A).

The role of political speeches and TV advertising is to inform voters about who the candidates are and what their proposals are for governing.

It is not, therefore, an opinion poll. This is done by the specific research institutes. TV is just a platform for voters to help them make decisions.
