List three major ways identity and way of life in the colonies differed from england
klio [65]

The three main differences in ways identity and ways of life between the English colonies and England were:

 1. The political system.
 2. The different types of populations.
 3. Religious tolerance.

Further explanation

1. The political system

The English colonies had different types of government depending on their history and location, but they were generally autonomous compared to the cities of England. Most had their own rulers and laws but still remained under the authority of the King of England. The charter colonies were the most democratic colonies of the English empire, they were the property of private shipping companies and had great freedom.

2. The different types of populations

By settling in new territories, English settlers were in contact with various populations. Although conquests often caused some wars, newcomers did not expel all of the old populations but instead tried to organize and build a common life. It had the effect of profoundly changing cultural habits and the traditional English way of life.

3. Religious tolerance

In England, as in most of Europe at that time, religious intolerance was very present. Many people were killed or imprisoned if their beliefs were different from official beliefs. In the colonies, it was quite different. Most of the time, the natives could continue to practice their religions, but the other branches of Christianity were tolerated as well. Protestants, Catholics or even laymen were much more easily accepted than in England, where they were totally rejected.
