Answer:

Subject: Students

Verb: Watched

Direct Object: video

Indirect Object: None

Explanation:

The subject is the thing that 'does the doing' in the sentence. In this case, the students are the subject. The verb is the action that done by the subject, so in this case, the students watched. The direct object is the objects that the verb is referring to in the sentence, so in this case, the direct object is video. There is no indirect object, or the person or thing that the verb is done for.

Which sentences from the passage match each type of figurative language?
Elden [556K]

Answer:

Simile - Suddenly, a striped orange cat galloped toward Janine like a racehorse.

Metaphor - Tiger's purr was a chainsaw that sliced through the air.

Personification - After she closed the door, silence slapped her in the face.

Explanation:

A simile, is figure of speech, that makes a comparison between two things, using the words "like", or "as". We can see that in the sentence, <em>"Suddenly, a striped orange cat galloped toward Janine like a racehorse." </em>, that the narrator is comparing how the cat galloped, to the gallop of a racehorse.

A metaphor, is a figure of speech that makes a comparison, <em>without</em> using the words "like" or "as". We can see that in the sentence, <em>"Tiger's purr was a chainsaw that sliced through the air"</em>, that the narrator is comparing Tiger's purr to a chainsaw.

A personification, is figure of speech, in which inanimate objects, are given human attributes. We can see in the sentence, <em>"After she closed the door, silence slapped her in the face"</em>, that the personification is, silence slapped her in the face. Because we can't physically feel and touch silence, there is no way that silence could do the same to us.

Write a letter to your district chief executive telling him/ her three problem facing my locality
Katen [24]

Answer:

Letter to the District Chief Executive about three problem in my locality.

Explanation:

ABC Apartments

.................

To,

The District Chief Executive

....................

3 May 2016

Subject: Problems faced by residents of ABC Apartment complex.

Dear Sir,

It is with a deep concern for the welfare of the community that I am writing to you about several issues that are presently affecting our locality.

First are the damaged roads and street lights, which leave the roads dark and dangerous at night. There have been numerous accidents that were at times too extreme.

Secondly, there's the issue of water shortage which has left many of the residents unable to even prepare their meals on time. Some are even left to cook their meals with bottled water from the shops, which is expensive.

And thirdly, I would also like to point out the issue of the garbage collection system. Recently, the collectors have stopped coming to our locality, leaving residents unable to dispose of their wastes and stinking the whole area. This has also led to an increase in mosquitoes which is dangerous for us all.

I hope this letter gets your attention. We are looking forward to any response or solution from the concerned authorities.

Thank you.

Regards,

Mr. Ashish Sharma

A resident of ABC Apartments
