Explanation:

This is based on a confidential letter that Thomas Jefferson wrote to Congress to convince them to fund the expedition of Lewis and Clark. In this letter he also spoke about how the American Indians were getting apprehensive at the thought of losing any more of their land.

Jefferson says that the Natives needed all the land they had because they liked to hunt and were not as settled which meant that agriculture was of little to no interest to them. He suggests that in order to have an easier time getting land from the natives, they would need to convince them to give up hunting and farm more so that they wouldn't need all that land for hunting.
