The female protagonist is Mrs. Mallard and she compares to Elizabeth Proctor who had to endure the knowledge of her husband's infidelity because she, that is Mrs. Mallard also had to endure her husband's meanness to her.

Explanation:

From the Story of an Hour, we learn of a woman named Mrs. Mallard who suffered from heart disease. At the beginning of the story, one of their family friends named Richards received news of the death of Brently Mallard the husband of Mrs. Mallard.

When the news was broken to Mrs. Mallard, she cried initially but became happy later knowing that she was now free from her husband's control. Her case is similar to that of Elizabeth Proctor who had to endure the knowledge of her husband's adultery with Abigail Williams.
