Why do you think the crowd supported Braddock over Baer?

Because Braddock hard fought his way up to the top. And that he was a everyday Irish person. Plus they knew that Baer killed a person.

btw - the way they portrayed Baer was inaccurate, he killed 1 person and he ended up compensating the family for the rest of their life.
