    The bass originated with a Seattle inventor named Paul Tutmarc. During the 1930s, Paul created an electric bass guitar that was designed to be played horizontally.

   A few years later, Audiovox created a bass guitar based on Tutmarc's model; This guitar was called Model 736 Fiddle Electronic Bass. This model was easier to carry and was played vertically, making it easier since it had frets, allowing accurate notation. Unfortunately, this low neck was reproduced en masse until the 1950s.

    Over the years, fretless basses have appeared, which are common among both classic and electric models.
