She is the one who finally gives him a correct answer to the Queen´s question, and thus saves his life in exchange for his hand in marriage. The Knight is appalled, for she is old and ugly, and on their wedding night she challenges him to choose: a beautiful young wife of whom he will never be sure if she is faithful or not, or an old, ugly woman who will always be loyal. He gives her the choice, and in the end, she changes into the beautiful woman. This shows that to this woman, what she most desired was to be seen first, and accepted, for who she truly was, and not for her physical beauty. That is why the answer is D.
